Leapfrogging the 1983 model designation this was the 1984 model and as such had to meet the string ent emission standards. The 1986 model year saw a return to the open roadster, although the numbers were only projected at 6,000 in the year. A well-loved car it had its critics; it was difficult to get into, had a very small luggage area and an uncomfortable footwell. Callaway built a twin-turbo V8 to be a Porsche/Mercedes beater. However, the ZR1 with its Lotus-engineered LT5 engine set a technological standard in 1988.
