Himalayacalamus porcatus, or Nepalese Blue bamboo, has a weepy growth habit with delicate, lush green foliage. The tight clumping bamboo features soft blue/white/grey coloured culm s. Young shoots will emerge in spring and are very dark in colour upon emergence. Dark sheaves drop away to reveal the new powdery white culms around ten centimetres in diameter, which turn to blue-green as they mature. Nepalese Blue can be planted into narrow garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of fifty centimetres. Soil: Well-mulched, free-draining soil. Improve sandy soil with organic matter. Mounding is recommended in heavy clay areas. Conditions: Requires a shady area or filtered light to thrive. Drought, frost, wind and coastal tolerant.
