The Paediatric Hinged Knee Brace is a children’s knee orthosis designed to provide structured medial and lateral stability while allowing functional knee movement. Polycentric side joints reinforce the knee in the mediolateral direction, providing more stability than a flexible knee support while remaining less restrictive than an immobiliser or specialist range-of-motion brace. The front of the support has an open-patella design, providing support around the kneecap where patellofemoral centring or unloading has been recommended. Two adjustable hook-and-loop straps positioned at the rear allow compression and fit to be adapted around the child’s knee. The brace is constructed from breathable elastic honeycomb fabric on the inside and elastic velour on the outside. It may be suitable for mild bruising, selected patellofemoral injuries, mediolateral knee instability and rehabilitation. It may also be used during selected post-operative treatment where this level of hinged support has been recommended. This brace allows knee flexion and extension and is not designed to immobilise the joint. Available in two paediatric sizes for children aged approximately 2–12 years.
