The resulting battle has fascinated historians partly because extensive Egyptian records survive, although those accounts were created to glorify Ramesses II and cannot simply be read as neutral battlefield reports. The Hittite perspective is therefore especially interesting to recreate in miniature. Rather than treating the army merely as the opposition to Ramesses, a substantial infantry force helps present the Hittites as the major imperial power they actually were.
