The Small/Sock size allows 'Small' gauged tips to fit on 'Sock' cables. They will also add an extra inch length to your needle/join. FAQ: What if I want to use a Sock Tip on a Smal l cord? No needle manufacturer makes an adapter that will let you fit a smaller tip on a larger cord - as that would cause an unusable hump where the needle meets the cable.
