HMCS COLLANDER The design of HMCS COLLANDER led to an unfortunate embarrassment for the shipyard supervisor. After two years of construction, while still in drydock, it was discove red that the original drawings had been read upside down—resulting in the portholes being placed below the waterline. Though welding metal plates over them was considered, it was agreed that seafarers must be able to trust their vessel. She was decommissioned before ever launching and was eventually scrapped.
