They were most often found on premier name trains for all the major railroads such as the Santa Fe Chief or IC?s Panama Limited, and were shared widely in cross-country pool service. They were a favorite for assignment to high-profile ?special? trains such as the Cardinal?s Train, the Eisenhower Campaign train, and the original Freedom Train of 1947-49, and frequently wore a variety of paint schemes during their tenure on the rails. Numbering over 200 built, these cars lasted long into the streamlined era, and were a major component of Florida winter trains on the East Coast.
