Hollister Ranch is a 13-mile stretch of coastline in Southern California that's known for its surfing, including a dozen surf breaks within a six-mile stretch. It’s a 14,500-acre operating cattle ranch subdivided into 100-acre plots and overseen by a very strict set of CC&Rs. Some say the area is one of the last unspoiled surf spots on the California coast. The ranch runs from Gaviota State Park to the Bixby Ranch, a private cattle ranch, and features points and reefs that face south. The area is exposed to the south and partially shaded by the Channel Islands, which can make swells smaller and more sensitive to tides. Unless you know a property owner and are invited by them to surf there your access is limited to the points and reefs along the westernmost tip of Point Conception, either legally by boating in or illegally by walking in.
