Handcrafted Eben Cole is not a random factory somewhere overseas. Eben Cole is a second-generation luthier who builds guitars from scratch, by hand, like his father before him. We make our instruments the way Leo did in the 50's. No robots, no pre-finished bodies, no pre-built necks; just routers, rasps and sweat. We hand-select every piece of wood, use only the finest USA-made components and hardware, and never compromise quality for quantity. Read more about our history Woods The body is hand-tooled out of Beetle Killed Blue Pine. This gorgeously figured tonewood is created when Pine Beetles and Blue Stain Fungi combine; the amount of color and figure in each guitar body will vary. This means every single guitar has its own unique visual character. We exclusively use North American-grown tone woods, many of which are FSC certified. Together, these choice woods produce the most unique, beautifully voiced instruments, all without having to cut down trees in third world countries. Pickups Our pickups are custom made for us by our own Silverhand Pickup line. They are hand wound and spectacular. Each Hollowtop features a unique Tele-style bridge pickup of our own design and comes with two options for the neck. It just so happens, the inspiration for the bridge pickup in a Hollowtop comes from a jewel in Eben's personal collection, a random ‘78 tele that came through the shop, and just sounded better than all the rest. It was a custom wound, one-off of unknown origin. Sometimes that’s just how things happen. We studied that pickup, and brought the best things it had going for it to life in our single coil we use in the bridge of all Hollowtop guitars. It's 41AWG wire, wrapped on alnico 5 magnets, and beautiful. Learn More. Mini LinkBased off our Silverhand Missing Link, but specially packaged in a mini casing for our Hollowtops. The Mini Link provides true single coil tone with some added beef and no hum. Delicious. The height of the pickup and the threaded magnets can be adjusted for bright and clean (standard setup) or reconfigured for a really fat, warm sounding pickup. Mini BirdHalf Firebird, Half Mini-Hum, the Mini Bird is unique. The top mini-humbucker coil has adjustable pole pieces, the bottom coil is covered like a traditional Firebird. The blend is perfectly balanced and super sweet. Compare Pickup Tones Hardware This isn’t your grandaddy’s hardware, son. We use only the best, USA made parts, whenever we possibly can. WHO CARES ABOUT A SADDLE? We do. After trying “the best of the best” of boutique Tele style bridges, we still could not find what we were looking for, so we resolved to design our own. Our bridges are heavy weight, have custom cutouts to facilitate picking over the bridge, are perfectly flat, and most importantly...the three compensated saddles intonate perfectly. Every component on the Hollowtop was chosen for a specific benefit to the overall tone. We take it so seriously, we designed our own pickups to get it just right. From the pickups, to the pots, even down to the solder we use, we have engineered the Hollowtop to be the most efficient medium for getting your music from your fingers to the amp.
