Every sculpture is painted by hand, making each one subtly different. The HistoryThe piece is an interpretation of the original "Holy Isle Effigy," as described in the work of William Dalziel. The controversial Holy Isle Effigy is one of many artifacts Dalziel claims to have unearthed during his excavations across the western isles of Scotland, in the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Long dismissed as a fringe figure by his contemporaries and modern scholars alike, Dalziel's work has found a surge of renewed interest in recent years thanks to a small but dedicated following on social media. Dalziel's central thesis claims the existence of an advanced people who once inhabited Scotland's western isles — a group he named "The Cadal" (Kah-tal, from the Gaelic word for sleep). The artifacts he uncovered depict ritual practices eerily similar to modern grappling and combat sports — this particular effigy mirrors the position of a rear naked choke, known in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as "mata leão." Dalziel claimed The Cadal possessed an understanding of human anatomy unrealized by medical science for centuries — using it to break bones and tear ligaments, boosting the "spiritual conductivity" of a willing participant, culminating in asphyxiation.
