Eastern Spinebill Found across much of south-eastern Australia, the Eastern Spinebill feeds on insects and nectar. Their long beaks are perfect for extracting sweet nectar from tub ular flowers like grevilleas. While they most often perch to feed, sometimes they hover on fast-beating wings like hummingbirds. Their flight is always fast and somewhat erratic. Eastern Spinebills can breed twice over a season, usually laying two pinkish spotty eggs in a small cup-shaped nest of grass, bark, twigs, hair and spider’s web in the fork of a tree. Show more
