The hei-matau is held in great reverence by the Maori people as a cultural treasure. According to Maori legend it is believed that the north island of New Zealand was once a huge fish caught by Maui, the great mariner. Hook (matau) framed artwork crafted from plantation grown gaboon using laser technology.
