The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam situated on the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada, in the United States. The dam was built between 1931 and 193 6, during the Great Depression, and was named after President Herbert Hoover. The Hoover Dam stands at a height of 726 feet and spans 1,244 feet across the Black Canyon, creating the largest reservoir in the United States, Lake Mead.
