Marrubium vulgare. Perennial. 2'. Horehound is a member of the mint family. Leaves of Horehound are wrinkled and covered with white hairs giving the plant a wooly appearance. Used for that wonderful horehound candy. Unique unforgetable flavor. Also used in cough lozenges and in tea for colds.Horehound is a native to Europe, North Africa and southwest central Asia but is now widely in many places including North and South America. Planting Directions: Start seed indoors 12 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Sow seeds ¼” deep in sterile seed starting medium with soil temperature of 70°-85°. Once germination occurs, grow plants on at soil temperatures of 55°-60°. Transplant in good garden soil amended with compost or general garden fertilized. Space plants 15” apart. Once established Horehound requires little supplemental water. Sow outdoors in spring when soil temperatures are 70°-85°. Horehound should be pruned at least once a season if leaves are not harvested. Plants look best clipped to prevent them from going to seed. Show more
