📌 Bullet Comparator A bullet comparator is a precision tool that works with a pair of calipers to measure loaded ammunition in a way that’s much more repeatable and meaningful than measuring overall length from bullet tip to case head. How it works & why it matters It attaches to your caliper jaws and uses interchangeable inserts (bushings) sized to fit around the bullet’s diameter. Instead of measuring to the tip of the bullet (which varies in shape and length), the comparator measures to the bullet’s ogive — the curved part that actually contacts the rifling in the barrel. Because ogives are more consistent than bullet tips, this gives you much more consistent cartridge length measurements.
