Offering year round cover, this though broadleaf tree is a great choice for a woodland setting. Its oval pointed leaves turning yellow in autumn and it produces catkins in spring, of which the females develop into papery, green winged fruits, known as samaras. Although not evergreen, Hornbeam will retain old leaves in winter, which provide additional interest and screening. Growing Conditions: Grows in fertile, well-drained soil in either full sun or partial shade.
