Thread and Slip — Not Male and Female Standard vacuum hose cuffs are specified as thread x slip, and getting this straight removes most of the confusion in this part of the catalogue. The threaded end screws onto the vacuum hose. It engages the external helix of the hose itself, which is why it grips. The slip end is a plain socket that pushes onto the wand or tool tube. There is no male or female option on a standard screw cuff. That terminology belongs to the Flash Cuff quick-connect range, which is a different and non-interchangeable system. If someone has told you to order a "female 1.5 inch cuff", they most likely mean a Flash Cuff. Worth knowing: there is no published thread standard, pitch or TPI for vacuum cuff threads, from any manufacturer we can find. The pitch is set by the helix of the hose, not by a fitting standard. Cuffs from different makers usually interchange, but test the joint before you rely on it. Cuff, Mender or Connector — Which Do You Need? Three different parts, routinely bought in error for one another. Warm water is enough on soft vinyl. Do not force a cold cuff — that is how hose ends get damaged. My cuff keeps pulling off. Why?
