[VL] As formidable as its namesake, Hosta 'Empress Wu' has a strong grasp on the title of "largest hosta." This massive hybrid of 'Big John' will tower over the rest of your hostas at an unheard of 4 1/2 feet tall. The green leaves are also super-sized, prominently veined and of superior substance. 'Empress Wu' is part of FOoSF members Brian and Virginia Skaggs' "Xanadu" series. Fertile, pale lavender flowers are held just above the foliage in mid summer. Hosta 'Empress Wu' can tolerate a good deal of sun and will form a colossal mound up to 4 1/2' tall and 7' or more across.
