This superb ploidy-mutant sport of Hosta 'Grand Tiara' is our favorite of the "Tiara" group of hostas. With the same excellent vigor and compact growth habit of its parent, Hosta ' Grand Prize' boasts a very wide gold margin that quickly brightens to a creamy white. This dazzling clump is a "must" in all shade gardens. In midsummer, a 2' wide Hosta 'Grand Prize' clump is topped with 2' tall spikes of dark lavender flowers! Hosta 'Grand Prize' is what's known as a 3.5-2-2 aneuploid chimera...it tried to become a tetraploid by doubling its chromosome number, but was stunted in development. Show more
