In mid to late summer it carries pale lavender flowers on upright stems above the foliage. Excellent for shaded borders, woodland-style schemes and large containers in Ireland, it prefers fertile, moisture‑retentive but well‑drained soil and dappled to full shade; fresh shoots may need protection from slugs and snails. Plants die back in winter and re‑emerge in spring. To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall).
