Magali Reus creates sculptures that are seemingly recognisable, often appropriating the symbolism of everyday ordinary objects from our surroundings. For her solo exhibition at the South London Gallery, Reus presented a new body of meticulously produced sculptures. Visual elements are reproduced, layered and repeated in works that are individually crafted using complex casting, moulding and weaving techniques, pitting the aggressive emptiness of manufacture against the slow diligence of handiwork. The works were presented in spatial chapters and designed to appear in a state of transition – frozen in progress, caught mid-function, or in a state of restoration, ruin or abandonment.“ ー South London Gallery ロンドンをベースに活動するMagali Reusは彫刻的な作品を製作する1981年生まれオランダ出身のアーティスト。自身のメジャーとなる初ソロエキシビジョンが 『MAGALI REUS: AS MIST, DESCRIPTION』がSouth London Gallery にて開催された。South London Gallery（SLG）のメインスペースに合わせた建築的な介在により組み立てられ、新作も展示された。 消防器具ホースのような作品群『Sentinel』（見張り，番人） 壺のようなオブジェや鋳造からなる『Crane』（クレーン） 鉄工の枠が鯨の骨を連想させる『Hwael』（鯨） 上記シリーズから成る。作品には馴染みのある機械や道具が見られ、機械や道具は機能とアイデンティティーが故意的に残されている。それらは、わたしたちが多義に解釈できるような鋭敏な示唆に富んでいる。成形、鋳造、織りといった手の込んだテクニックを用い個々につくられたオブジェが、再生産、重なり、繰り返しによって、視覚的に演出される。また、製作途中のまま凍結、一部分だけ抜粋したよせ集め、修復、破壊、破棄の状態を伴い、２地点や２階層間を行き来するなど、ギャラリー内空間の一部分として構成された。本書は『MAGALI REUS: AS MIST, DESCRIPTION』展（2018年3月23日〜5月27日迄、South London Gallery ）の図録として刊行された。 ー South London Galleryより デザインは、ロンドンにあるデザインスタジオ、A Practice For Everyday Life！
