You can keep track of the temperature with the handy thermometer enclosed in the lid The enclosed design with built-in filter helps to manage odours, while insulating the contents making it easier to achieve higher temperatures. As well as garden waste (leaves, hedge and grass cuttings), you can add kitchen waste including leftover cooked food, vegetable peelings, eggshells, stale bread, fish, meat and small bones. Pet bedding and manures, plus dog waste and some cat litters can also be processed when the bin runs hot over 40°C. At hot composting temperatures you'll see mulching-grade compost in around 30 days and rich, general-purpose, ready-to-use compost in 3 months. What can take 12–24 months in a cold heap takes just 13 weeks in a HOTBIN.
