THE BUGS- 'S/T' LP. Magical things happen at house parties. People get drunk, act crazy, laugh, and even the worst, most self-conscious dancer shakes it. The Bugs are a piñata-pounding house-party gallop like no other, crisp and listenable a million times over, but don’t take my word for it. Take it from the self-proclaimed “originator of the whole sorry, loathsome rockwrite shuck.” The album comes stamped with the official (perhaps collectible) approval of famously cantankerous rock-writing godfather, Richard Meltzer, who provides a patently acerbic yet high-praising original liner note. According to His Surliness, rock ‘n’ roll is a pointless, long dead, and “irredeemably oppressive” load of crap that no one should ever bother to play again, let alone write about. He then proclaims the Bugs to be the “lone exception,” and orders us to “Dig it, people: the Bugs are the s***t.” Who am I to argue?. Fans of the Gories, Oblivians, Live Fast Die, Spits and MOTO will dig.
