Hoya callistophylla is a striking and rarely seen Hoya, prized for its thick, lustrous green leaves and extraordinary dark veining. The bold pattern becomes increasingly pronounced as the leaves mature, giving this beautiful collector’s plant an almost prehistoric appearance. Native to Borneo, Hoya callistophylla is a climbing plant that can be trained around a hoop or trellis, or allowed to trail naturally from a shelf or hanging planter. Given warmth, good light and time to mature, it may also produce attractive clusters of star-shaped Hoya flowers. Place in bright, indirect light and water when the upper few centimetres of compost have dried. Use a free-draining compost, avoid leaving the plant sitting in water and feed once a month during spring and summer. Higher humidity is appreciated, but good airflow and careful watering are equally important.
