Hoya cumingiana is a compact, collectable wax plant with small, fleshy oval leaves and a naturally tidy, climbing habit. It is a brilliant choice if you love hoyas but want something a little less sprawling, it stays neat, looks great on a small hoop or trellis and rewards patience with properly showy blooms. When it flowers, expect clustered umbels of waxy, star-shaped blooms with a buttery yellow corolla and a deep red centre. Many growers also note a distinctive fragrance, and mature plants can produce a little nectar during flowering. Give your hoya bright, indirect light and allow the compost to dry most of the way between waterings. A chunky, free-draining mix suits it best.
