Within the series of my rhythm pieces (darabukka for piano or morning song for large orchestra), the composition for snare drum is a counterpart. The moment of tension: pitch instruments are treated like rhythm instruments. Instead of this inner contrast, the tension of the various uses of the drum is replaced by a relatively large number of constant treatment elements. Although developed only at the beginning of the 19th century, the small drum can be seen within an old and multi-layered drum culture. Different sides of the richness of this culture, regarding social use as well as diversity of playing technique and expression, form the basis of compositional technology.
