The youngest of eight children, he was the first to be born in the UK after his family left Jamaica for Birmingham in the 1960s. As a result, Anderson’s work reflects on his experiences of belonging and diaspora.Thanks to his profoundly atmospheric use of composition to explore the markers of identity, this exhibition confirms Anderson’s standing as one of the most important contemporary painters of a generation.
