Hydrangea macrophylla or Big Leaf Hydrangea is the old school Hydrangea and is loved for its big, long-lasting blooms. This baby is a deciduous shrub with glossy green rounded leaves and famous flowers. The really cool thing about this shrub - you have the ability to control the flower colour. Want pink blooms? Make sure your soil is alkaline. Prefer lilac - make sure your soil is slightly acidic. Hydrangeas will do well in a spot that gets morning sun but does not like direct afternoon sun as their leaves will burn. Give me a hard haircut in early spring and I will come back bigger and better.
