The difference is strictly a personal preference in appearance! The most common style has cutouts. The theory behind the cutouts in high performance applications is that they allow the propeller to spin higher RPM’s. Sizing: Small - 9.9-35 HP Medium - 40-60 HP Large - 60-90 HP or large gear case XL - ¼” thick designed for 90 HP and more Common motor suggested sizing: Small - 10-¼” and smaller propellers Yamaha 25, mercury 25, all true 25 and under HP Medium - 10-¼” to 11-¾” propeller Mercury 40-60 hp non CT (Command Thrust or Bigfoot) 2 stroke and 4 stroke Yamaha 40-60 4 stroke; 40, 50 2 stroke Tohatsu “mega”; 40-60 2 stroke and 4 stroke Suzuki DT25 Large - 11-¾ to 14-½” propellers, up to 90hp Any big gear case such as command thrust, or Bigfoot Yamaha 60-90 2 stroke; 70-90 4 stroke Tohatsu 90 2 & 4 stroke Most Evinrude, Johnson, OMC 40-90hp, “big gear case” Extra Large - same basic design as the large, just thicker, and a larger opening to slide around the foot.
