Hydros Start
Hydros Start The Hydros Start is an entry-level HYDROS aquarium controller built for hobbyists who want dependable temperature monitoring, controlled power outlets, app-based alert s, and future expansion without starting with a more advanced controller. With four AC outlets, four Sense Ports, two Drive Ports, Command Bus connectivity, and support for compatible HYDROS WiFi devices, it is a strong first controller for freshwater, saltwater, reef, pond, quarantine, and utility-system setups. HYDROS Start Aquarium Controller Overview The Start is designed to make aquarium automation more approachable while still using the same HYDROS ecosystem logic as larger controllers. Out of the box, it can monitor temperature and power up to four aquarium accessories, making it useful for common equipment such as heaters, pumps, lights, skimmers, and other essential devices. For many aquariums, this provides the first layer of automation customers actually need: temperature awareness, controlled outlets, alerts, and simple app-based schedules. As the system grows, the Hydros Start can be expanded with optional accessories for water level monitoring, leak detection, additional parameter tracking, RODI management, and small 12V device control. This gives beginners a clean starting point while still leaving room for more advanced control later. It can operate on its own for a simple setup or join other HYDROS controllers in a Collective, allowing users to build a larger system without replacing the original controller. Expanded Start Monitoring and Control Features Four controllable AC outlets: The Start includes four 120V AC outlets for powering aquarium equipment such as heaters, return pumps, protein skimmers, lights, and other accessories. This gives users direct outlet control from the controller without immediately adding a separate energy bar. Temperature monitoring out of the box: The included temperature sensor allows the Start to monitor one of the most important aquarium safety parameters right away. Temperature alerts and outlet rules can help protect livestock from heater problems or overheating conditions. Four universal Sense Ports: Sense Ports allow compatible HYDROS sensors to be added for water level, leak detection, flow, TDS, and other supported monitoring functions. This makes the Start expandable beyond basic temperature and outlet control as the aquarium becomes more complex. Two 12V Drive Ports: The Drive Ports provide switched 12V DC output for compatible HYDROS accessories such as ATO pumps, dosing pumps, cooling fans, cabinet LEDs, small solenoids, steering valves, and other low-power devices. This helps preserve AC outlet space for larger equipment. Drive Port current monitoring: The Start can monitor Drive Port current so users can be notified if a connected motor or pump stops drawing current or draws too much. This adds a useful safety layer for small pumps and control accessories. Two Command Bus ports: Command Bus connectivity allows the Start to communicate with other HYDROS devices and become part of a larger HYDROS Collective. This helps the system expand cleanly as more controllers, sensors, and power devices are added. Control up to eight WiFi devices: The HYDROS app allows the Start to control up to eight compatible WiFi devices such as HYDROS feeders, power strips, and smart outlets. This gives the system more outlet and accessory expansion without replacing the controller. Local and cloud access: HYDROS supports local WiFi control and remote cloud access through the app, allowing users to view status, receive notifications, and manage compatible equipment from their phone or tablet. No-code setup: The HYDROS app uses menus, icons, schedules, and rules instead of traditional programming language. This makes the Start especially suitable for customers buying their first aquarium controller. Expandable HYDROS platform: The Start can remain useful as the aquarium grows. It can be combined with additional HYDROS devices for more sensors, more controlled outlets, probe monitoring, dosing, or more complex automation. It does not include pH, ORP, or salinity probe ports, so those parameters require another HYDROS controller or compatible device. Optional HYDROS accessories can add leak detection, water-level monitoring, flow monitoring, TDS monitoring, ATO control, dosing pump control, and additional outlet control as the system grows. Official HYDROS Start Video Setting Up Your HYDROS Start Mount the Start in a dry, elevated location with drip loops on all cables and enough space for clean power-cord routing. Connect the included temperature sensor, plug essential equipment into the four AC outlets, download the HYDROS app, connect the controller to WiFi, and complete any firmware updates. Name each output, create schedules or rules, set alert thresholds, and test each safety response before relying on the controller for regular operation.
