With Hydroxycitronellal, the muguet & softness effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself. Its limitation appears at higher levels, where the result can become powdery, soapy, or overly sweet. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Hydroxycitronellal is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it. The tenacity is good, and the odour diffusion increases significantly when the material is properly blended with lower boiling odourants or modifiers. One of the most frequently used floralising perfume materials, it finds its way into almost every type of floral fragrance, and a great many nonfloral ones.
