In John 17:3, Jesus prays, “This is eternal life, that they would know you.” He isn’t just interested in a mental belief; He’s after a relationship. Think about it. We’ve all just finished watching Christmas movies. How good are they, right? Some of you may even watch them all year long! Most of these movies push the same message: do you believe in Santa? But there’s one movie that stands out because the main character doesn’t just believe in Santa – he knows him. If you’ve seen Elf, you know Buddy doesn’t just believe in Santa; he knows him. So, when someone impersonates Santa, he can tell right away and calls him out with, “You smell like roast beef. You’re not Santa!” That’s the point Jesus is making. He’s not interested in you just believing in God. In fact, the Bible says even the demons believe in God. Jesus wants you to know Him. Do you know Him? Because He wants to know you. He’s not looking for your performance, your effort, good intentions, or improvement. He’s looking for you. Jesus came to reveal the Father and to help you know Him.
