This is true. And until you see that, you will continue to live within the confines of your conditioning. Until you realize that your mind’s number one job is to protect the organism, you will still live under the illusion that you are changing, when in fact you are only becoming more entrenched in yourself. The brain relishes security, comfort, and stability, and therefore hates and avoids interruption, disruption, and threat. Which is why belief often prevents us from knowing what’s true We like to think we are changing and growing when we are only reinforcing our prejudices, worldviews, and dispositions. We think we are learning when we are only confirming. Our conditioning feeds on itself. This is why I believe it takes some kind of trauma, shock, or flash of insight, to provoke the necessary escape from our conditioning. This “event” often propels us into a life of deconstruction. Scary and beautiful at once.
