What stays with me every time isn’t fear. It’s that look. Tiger sharks can be incredibly calm and curious, and Kalihi has this way of watching you that feels less like aggression and more like assessment. She’s not rushing. She’s not performing. She’s just fully there. That presence is what I wanted in this piece—the moment fear starts getting replaced by fascination.
