The IAI Kfir (Hebrew for "Lion Cub") is an Israeli, all-weather, multirole combat aircraft developed by Israel Aerospace Industries. Conceived in the late 1960s and 1970s, the Kfir was engineered to overcome French arms embargos by marrying the airframe of the French Dassault Mirage 5 with the reliable American General Electric J79 turbojet engine (license-built in Israel). 225 IAI Kfir aircraft were built across all variants between 1975 and the late 1980s.
