iDEAL PWB-1600 Premium Work Bench
Product Description The open-frame version: no cabinet, so the space under the top is yours The iDeal PWB-1600 is the plain bench in this family — heavy-duty steel, a 59.5″ x 27.5″ working surface, a 2″ retaining fence on three sides, and nothing built in underneath it. That absence is the point. An integrated drawer unit is genuinely useful right up until the day you want to roll your own tool box under the bench, park a shop compressor there, slide a parts washer in, or simply sit at it with your knees where a cabinet would be. This model leaves that decision to you. It is rated to support 1,600 lbs, it is fabricated from 2.54 mm steel, and the whole thing ships in two pieces at 110 lbs. That last figure is worth noticing: it is a bench two people can carry into position, and a bench that goes up a flight of stairs, which is not true of everything in this category. Will it work in your space? The working surface measures 59.5″ across by 27.5″ deep — a genuine two-arm span, deep enough for a cylinder head or a transmission case with room in front of it to lay tools out. Fully adjustable levelling leg stands take up floor fall, so a slab with drainage slope or a settled joint does not leave you shimming corners with washers. Check the route before you check the wall. The crate has to reach the room it is going into: doorways, corners, a step at the threshold, and anything narrow on the way. Because the bench bolts together from flat pieces, it will pass through openings that a welded bench of the same size never would — but somebody still has to carry it there. Confirming the space and the access is the buyer's responsibility, and it is far cheaper to do with a tape measure than with a delivery truck waiting. Steel thickness is the number to compare 2.54 mm steel is a structural thickness rather than a decorative skin. It is the specification that decides whether the top is still flat after years of impact work and whether a vice bolted through it pulls the deck up around its mounting plate. If you are cross-shopping benches, gauge tells you far more about how one will age than the marketing name on the front of it does. Everything else on a bench can be added later; the deck cannot. The 2″ fence on three edges does quiet, daily work. Dropped hardware stops at the lip instead of rolling to the floor, long stock has something square to register against when you mark it, and a spilled solvent tray stays on the bench. The fourth side is left open deliberately, so you keep one clean edge to clamp to and to slide heavy work across rather than lift it. Bolt-together, and why that is an advantage rather than a compromise The PWB-1600 arrives knocked down and assembles with hand tools. Beyond the obvious freight benefit, a flat-packed bench can be built in the room where it will stand — a basement shop, a mezzanine, a garage behind an awkward turn. Give yourself an unhurried hour, a socket set and a second pair of hands for setting the top on the frame. Snug the frame, stand it up, level it on its feet, then torque everything down. A row in the specification table that does not belong to this model Read the manufacturer's specification table on this page carefully. It carries a tool cabinet size row. This model does not have a tool cabinet — the feature list makes no mention of one, and the cabinet is what distinguishes the bench-and-cabinet version of this product from this one. We are treating that row as carried across from the sibling model rather than as a claim about what you are buying, and we would rather say so here than let it sell you storage that is not in the crate. If you want the drawer unit, buy the bench-and-cabinet model instead; if you have read that row as an inclusion, ask us to confirm in writing before you order and we will put it beyond doubt. Perfect for The home workshop with a tool box already — roll what you own underneath instead of paying twice for storage. A professional bay needing a clean tear-down surface next to the lift, with the underside kept clear for a parts washer or a drum. Fleet and dealership shops standardising on one bench they can order again as the shop grows. Anyone working seated — assembly, diagnostics, electrical or machining work where knee room under the top matters more than drawers. What arrives The bench top with its retaining fence, the frame, the fully adjustable levelling leg stands and the bolt-together hardware, in a durable powder-coat finish, shipped as two pieces. No cabinet, no drawers, no vice — that is the specification of this model and we would rather be flat about it than let the family photograph do the talking. Specifications Model PWB-1600 Support capacity 1,600 lbs Work top area 59.5″ x 27.5″ Steel thickness 2.54 mm Retaining fence 2″ high, three sides Levelling Fully adjustable leg stands Assembly Bolt-together, ships knocked down Ship weight 110 lbs, 2 pcs Overall assembled dimensions are given in the manufacturer's specification table on this page; we have not restated them in prose, so there is only one place they can go out of date. On ratings and listings The support figure is iDeal's own rating for this bench, not an outside body's finding, and nothing about this bench is presented as independently listed. That is ordinary for shop furniture — the independent listing schemes in this industry cover vehicle lifting equipment rather than benches. Should an insurer, an employer's equipment policy or a local inspection regime require an externally listed workbench, get that requirement in writing and send it to us before you order, and we will give you a straight answer about whether this model satisfies it. Shipping and delivery Shipped by freight to the lower 48, quoted live at checkout for your address rather than from a number typed into this page. You need a way to get the shipment off the truck — a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack and a couple of people — and if you have none of those, you can take delivery at the carrier's local terminal instead. A residential address carries a residential fee, shown to you before you pay. Look the shipment over before signing: any tear, crush or corner damage goes on the delivery receipt in writing, with photographs, and a message to us the same day. Signing a clean receipt makes a later damage claim very hard to win. Warranty The bench carries the manufacturer's limited warranty. Rather than paraphrase terms that are theirs to set and ours to get wrong, we keep the current terms, exclusions and claim procedure on our warranty claims page. If a particular term is load-bearing for your purchase, ask us to confirm it in writing beforehand. If a fault does appear, photograph it as found and contact us before dismantling or modifying anything — a unit that has already been taken apart is usually outside the claim, and that is an avoidable way to lose one.
