EXTRAIT DE PARFUM There is delicious magic at play in Idìlios, the sixth perfume from Andrea Bissoli Rubini and uber-talented perfumer Cristiano Canali at Rubini Profumi. It follows on from the eerie metal-dusted rocket after-burn of Hyperion, one of the most original compositions to launch in recent years. Idìlios is a sequel to Hyperion, the unanchored sweet drift of hazy mission, the aftermath of orbit arrival. A serenity of intense notes evoking the soft-scoop memories of a hush-hush love affair, Idìlios is a delicate, yet impactful blend of musks, vanillas, velveteen peach, green tea, coconut, osmanthus and the honeyed ivory sensuality of champaca flower. Mandarine and bergamot are suspended at the top, radiating a secretive pastel light. There are no weak links in Andrea and Cristiano’s output; from the chalky wine eroticism of Fundamental, through coffee and woods of Tambour Sacré, burning rubber and racing gasoline of Nuvolari, sci-fi bucolic idyll of Odenaturae, Hyperion and now Idìlios. There is beautiful boldness in combing a milky peach note with a pastel imagining of aerated candyfloss. Layering this with the dense honeyed tuberose tones of champaca, snowy osmanthus and green tea make Idìlios so compelling; it is joyous to find a perfume you want to wear and wear. It smells beautiful sprayed on clothes and hair, creating an intangible aura of mystery and comfort. Interestingly there are three different extractions of vanilla, each one adding a slightly different nuance of cassonade. The lacteous refreshment of coconut serves to exalt the inherent alabaster drift of Idìlios and provides another whorl of enigma into this opaque and strange synthesis of olfactive reverie.
