Ignorance is an extremely prevalent issueright next to arrogance, when it comes to the unjust persecutionof Indigenous Australians. The assumption that addiction andhigh incarceration rates in Indigenous communities is becausethey are bad people is a ridiculous and uneducated take. Whenin reality it’s because of the systematic oppression, and systemsput in place to intentionally put down Indigenous Australians.Personally I believe it is extremely important to show up andeducate our communities on the reality of these situations.Teach the unspoken history in schools. Otherwise we will keepexperiencing generations of people that can’t wrap their headsaround empathy.
