Liholiho renamed the barge Haaheo o Hawaii and ran her hard between the islands. When he and Kamāmalu left on the diplomatic mission to Great Britain in 1823 (aboard the L'Aigle), his younger brother continued to see to his debts. At 13 years old, Kauikeaouli went to Waoʻala with Kaʻahumanu and other chiefs to cut the famed lāʻau ʻala (fragrant wood). Liholiho and Kamāmalu tragically lost their lives in Britain in the summer of 1824 and the barge was destroyed the same year, running aground at Kauaʻi.
