The expert federal agents who look for counterfeit money don’t learn their skill by studying counterfeits; they actually learn it by studying genuine bills until they have learned every characteristic of the real thing. The same is true of Christians wanting to discern false teaching—we learn best by studying the real thing, not the counterfeits.
