Biography Leo Janis Brieditis (1922 - 2008) was a Latvian-born Swedish artist whose career encompassed painting, sculpture and graphic art. Born in Latvia, he received his early artistic training at the Art Academy of Riga before settling in Sweden after the upheavals of the Second World War. He subsequently continued his studies at the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm and at Uppsala University, establishing the foundations for a long and varied artistic career. Brieditis became an active participant in Sweden’s post-war cultural life, exhibiting widely both nationally and internationally. Alongside his acclaimed easel paintings, Brieditis completed numerous public commissions throughout Sweden. His sculptures and public artworks were installed in cities including Stockholm, Uppsala, Norrtälje, Jönköping, Kalmar and Falkenberg. His art entered several important public collections, among them the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Uppsala Art Museum.
