Original Oil by Bart Walker | Idaho | 7.5 x 10.5 inches framed In this painting, soft golden fields stretch toward Independence Rock glowing in evening light, with a sky that feels like the last breath of a perfect day settling in. Independence Rock, is a significant marker on the Mormon, Oregon and California trails (southwest of present day Casper, Wyoming) where 5,000 western pioneers signed their names to commemorate their grueling journey and leave an update for loved ones traveling behind them. This outcropping of rock was named Independence because it was considered it a major goal to reach the rock by Independence Day. Arriving by July 4th meant the wagon train was making good time and had a crucial buffer to cross the treacherous Rocky Mountains before winter snows set in. Bart Walker paints the American West with such warmth, and this small and sweet painting brings a moment of quiet stillness. Framed and ready to hang or display on a table or countertop paired with an easel. On display in the 2026 Utah Valley Parade of Homes | Brin Valley by Candlelight Homes
