The design is centered around a white star, representing the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and the city's role as the state capital. The star sits inside a red circle, which symbolizes the vibrant heart of the city (Monument Circle). The dark blue field is divided by a white cross, representing the intersection of Meridian and Market Streets—the very center of Indy’s unique "Mile Square" grid.
