Indigènes is Maï Lam's wine for Blacé, in southern Beaujolais, and what separates it from her Canaille is time: a month on skins rather than a fortnight. That buys depth, and a str ucture that suggests it will keep for a while yet. Gamay again, no sulphur added, pressed slowly in the way she and Sébastien Morin both favour. Darker fruited than the Canaille and more serious with it, with firmer tannin and a savoury length. Lam is French-Vietnamese and spent years in Singapore before Beaujolais, which is worth knowing when you notice how easily these wines sit with the food here. Show more
