Third Offensive belongs to the line of books that carry the setting itself: the worlds, the factions, the politics and the conflicts that the tabletop battles are supposed to be episodes from.Books like this are read by two sorts of player. One wants the background, the maps and the reasons that armies exist, usually because they are running a narrative campaign. The other wants to understand a faction properly before committing money to it, which a rulebook alone will not tell you. Format: a book from the Infinity line rather than a miniatures release. Content: setting and background material for the Human Sphere. Who it suits: narrative players, collectors of the line, and anyone reading their way into a faction. Worth checking which edition of Infinity a given book was written for before you rely on anything in it at the table, since the game has moved through several and the rules content dates faster than the setting does. As reading, the Human Sphere holds up on its own terms whether or not you play.
