From "Inspirations: 80 Motifs en Couleur," by Adrien Jacques Garcelon, Paris: Ch. Massin & Cie, n.d. (circa 1930). Garcelon was a French decorative painter and designer of the 1920 s and 1930s known for his art deco and jazz-age wallpaper and textile patterns. These rare types of prints are known "Pochoir" (French for "stencil") which is a type of screen printing in which the outlines of the design are produced first, then brilliant color is hand-applied through a series of stencils. Pochoirs were used in fashion, patterns, wallpaper, architectural design, and book illustration. Garcelon was a master printmaker and wallpaper designer. His "Inspirations" designs are typical of the Art Deco style of 1920s and early 1930s, a style used by many French artists including Picasso, Leger, and Seguy. Garcelon, along with Paul Follot, Henri Stephany and Edouard Benedictus, were among the prominent French designers of that time. Sold individually. Dimensions: 13" W x 15.75" H Show more
