The two halves screw together using small screws included in the hardware kit. You will see a small horizontal seam at the join where the two halves meet. The seam is structural, not a defect. Painting the plate after assembly minimizes the visual appearance of the seam. For outdoor installs, apply a thin bead of clear silicone or paintable acrylic caulk along the seam line to seal out moisture. Once screwed together, the plate behaves like a single rigid piece. How to Measure Your Old Box Two measurements to take: the screw-hole center-to-center distance (so we drill them in the right spot), and the wall-opening height × width (so we know how big to make the plate).
