Description Fire-rated intumescent lined, woven glass fabric covers for lights and downlighter. Intumescent downlighter covers create a fire seal to maintain integrity as well as fire rating of a ceiling. Easily fitted from above or below in suspended or plasterboard ceilings. According to the fire statistics, overheated light fittings and electrical faults are a leading cause of fire destruction to buildings and homes. With buildings left unprotected, fire and smoke spread rapidly throughout these structures destroying rooms and properties. Installing passive fire protection products for electrical services provides multiple advantages, such as, compartmentalising fire, preventing the spread of fire and smoke and also preserving building structures. The intumescent materials expands in the event of a fire, creating a fire battier which prevents flames from spreading. This allows occupants to evacuate a building safely as well as providing fire services extra time to extinguish flames before they become severe. This product is manufactured in a range of sizes to fit over various electrical fittings. An acoustic version is also available. Tested to BS476 Parts 22, 23 and 23 (Clause 5) (1987), achieving 240 minutes integrity. Our electrical and plumbing products meet IET wiring regulations as well as Document B & E of Building Regulations tested to European and British Standards. Advantages —Maintains the fire rating of plasterboard or suspended ceilings rated up to 4 hours—Available in standards and acoustic forms, preventing sound transfer from different floors of a building up to 63dB—Can be made to accommodate downlighter alone, or downlighter/transformer combos—Downlighter cages are a sturdier option, allowing for insulation to be laid over the top after they are fixed in place - ideal for lofts—Can be used to improve the dire rating of ceiling-mounted speakers as well as downlighters—The range also contains downlighter adaptors which can convert existing light fittings to fire resistant, low-energy units, saving up to 40W per light whilst providing 66 minutes of fire protection—Easily installed in 5 minutes or less. Custom sizes made to order. Application Instructions Lead the cable from the transformer through the pre-cut downlight aperture in the ceilingPierce the cable entry point in the top of the cover with a sharp object, creating an opening largeenough to suit the cable size.Feed sufficient cable through the opening for the connectionCompress the cover and pass it through the aperture in the ceilingOpen out the cover once inside the ceiling, away from the light fittingUsing the two supplied pins, fasten opposite inner flanges of the cover to the plasterboardInsert the light fitting and fasten the closing mechanism over the inner flaps of the downlighter cover toseal the opening.Downlighter covers require a minimum of 40mm horizontal clearance and 15mm vertical clearanceCages are rigid and require no clearance, meaning that insulation can be packed around them as kong as it does not cover the ventilations holes NB: Downlighter cages cannot be compressed to fit through the light fitting aperture from below and must therefore be positioned from above.
