The mineral marcasite, sometimes called “white iron pyrite”, is iron sulfide (FeS2) with orthorhombic crystal structure. This specimen of marcasite has an amazing iridescent tarni sh in colors of purple, green, bright blue, golds and reds. The metallic marcasite is complimented beautifully by gemmy illustrious clear to orangish calcite crystals which cover the specimen 360 degrees around. Small brightly colored brassy yellow crystals of chalcopyrite also adorn the piece. Marcasite is said to be a gemstone utilized for powerful meditation. Marcasite gems aid in introspection and tend to resonate more strongly with higher, more spiritual chakras. According to many beliefs, marcasite is a talisman associated with wisdom, courage and expression.
