Whether your doll is strolling down the red carpet, attending a wedding, or simply at a stylish “do,” this pattern allows your doll the opportunity to be at her most fashionable best. The “Iris” outfit consists of an unlined sheath dress finishing at the knee. The dress is then overlaid with a light specialty fabric like bridal tulle or chiffon, which allows the overlay to flow into a gorgeous cascade of light. Optional appliqued lace adds a delicate touch to the body of the dress, while the lace (or trim) across the top of the bodice highlights the sophistication or casualness of your doll’s event. The back of the dress has a closing of eyelets, and as a bonus, a charming headpiece pattern of fabric and ribbons complements the outfit. This pattern offers the seamstress a lot of versatility; for example, the overlay around the base of the dress can be left off and a classy sheath dress remains. Alternatively, there are endless possibilities in how the dressmaker wants to style the overlay fabric at the bottom of the dress. “Iris” is designed to fit 18-inch dolls such as American Girl® and Our Generation™. The pattern is intended to be used with woven cottons like satin, delustered satin, tulle, lace, and chiffon. Recommended Fabrics: Light-weight cotton like delustered satin, satin, tulle, chiffon. Supplies Needed: Fashion fabric (or underlay fabric) ½m (wide) x ¼m (deep) (or 20" x 10"), woven cotton, non-stretch fabric like delustered satin (shown in the white outfit) and satin (shown in the blue outfit). Overlay fabric of 1m (wide) x 3m (deep) (or 39" x 118"), light-weight woven cotton fabric like bridal tulle (shown in the white outfit) or chiffon (shown in the blue outfit). Note: I have made the neckline facing out of the overlay fabric in these pictures. Lace piece measuring 17" x 2" for the straps, plus optional extra lace for applique. The applique lace can be taken from the same fabric as the lace piece (which I have done in the white outfit), although this lace amount is not included in the above amount. 36" ribbon for eyelets (with a width to fit your eyelets like 1/8-1/4") 33" of ribbon at 1/4-1/2" wide for the headpiece 28" of ribbon at 1/8-1/4" wide for the headpiece Scraps of overlay fabric for headpiece (or alternative fabric) Eyelets and eyelet applier. I have used 6 eyelets on the white outfit and 14 on the blue outfit. Matching or contrasting thread Hooks and eyes (optional) or buttons and buttonhole-loops Stabilizer (optional) for strengthening fashion (underlay) fabric at the bottom edge/hem.
